Complete Data News

Welcome to the latest edition of Complete Data News.

In this edition we'll look at the concept of web based software as it applies to Complete Data, welcome the newest members of the Complete Data membership and showcase the Market Place Report.

Web Based Software and Complete Data

A lot of people ask us if Complete Data is "web based".

Web based can mean many things. For example for some people it means using a web browser such as Internet Explorer to access the program and for others it means using other programs like Microsoft Terminal Services to access the office network from home.

We have explored the possibility of customers accessing Complete Data via a web browser. However, our investigations have revealed that we would loose too much functionality with a web based version. Further, you would loose control of your program. If we hosted the program for you and lost our connection to the internet, you could not access your data and this would drive you crazy.

While you cannot access Complete Data via the internet, you can use Terminal Services software which provides access via a remote connection over the internet to your office. Terminal Services allows remote users to access Complete Data via any Internet connected computer (e.g. at home, at the airport, overseas etc) and not lose any of the features/functionality that underpins Complete Data. This method is also considered web based by some of our competitors so to some people we already offer a "web based" version when accessed via Terminal Services. We have many customers using this model with great success.

If you would like more information on how you could access your office copy of Complete Data via Terminal Services please contact us. Depending on your office network there may be additional hardware requirements as the Terminal Server computer cannot be the same computer as your Complete Data server.

Luke's Tips and Tricks.

We often get asked “where’s the back button?”, particularly by new users of Complete Data. As Microsoft integrates Internet Explorer into the Windows operating system, such as Windows XP, a back button is appearing everywhere. Unfortunately a database and a web browser like Internet Explorer are not the same and including a back button like Explorer is not possible. Complete Data comprises over 40 different files or databases and you constantly move from one database to another, then one layout or screen to another, with no way of easily tracking where you came from.

However as you get more familiar with navigating your way around Complete Data we would recommend you have a look at the Window menu at the very top of your screen. This menu lists all the databases or files that you have opened and you can select an item from this list to quickly return to that database. For example if you were currently in the Marketing database and needed to return to the Contacts database you could simply go to the Window menu and select “CD_Contacts.fp5” and you will be taken back to the Contacts database and to the screen/layout that you were viewing when last in the Contacts database.

Coming Soon

Based on feedback from existing users we are working on changing the layout in the scheduled tasks screen so that you will be able to communicate from scheduled tasks without going back to contacts.
